Text and elements placed on top of the magenta stay visible above the photo.
You can also leave the area transparent, if you export as a PNG with transparency.

Export as PNG
Export your poster as a PNG, in the best quality possible, then upload it in the publishing wizard: the area is detected automatically.
Don't export as JPG: compression alters the magenta and the area may not be detected.
Common mistakes
A solid, clean magenta shape
Gradient, shadow or transparency on the shape
Magenta elsewhere on the poster (text, artwork)
An area that's too small (less than 10% of the poster)
A sample photo in the area
